PHP's internals are a big secret. This secrecy even carries over to things that appear to be easy from the outside.
In the first part, Derick will explain variables and references in great detail, going into the gory details of the implementation (copy-on-write, refcounting, circular references, types and objects).
Part two explains the execution cycle (locating a file, reading, parsing, compiling, the difference between compile time and run time, exceptions) and will also cover byte code caches (APC and the like).
Interspersed throughout the presentation, Derick will also recount a number of anecdotes.
